The Springtime of Poets

Jean VILAR, mot pour mot, by Jacques Téphany et Melly Touzoul, éd. Stock, Paris, 1972.
The Springtime of Poets - Le Printemps des poètes
The Printemps des poètes was conceived and launched by Jack Lang, the former Minister of Culture, in Paris from 21 to 28 March 1999, and by Emmanuel Hoog and André Velter, in order to highlight the extreme vitality of poetry in France. It quickly became a nationwide event, and the voice of the poets rose to the occasion, with a host of poetic initiatives across the country and abroad. Printemps des poètes has built up a huge, active community of poets, publishers, teachers, students, librarians, singers, actors, musicians and readers.
Since then, over 12,000 events have been organised in France and abroad, in schools and educational establishments, libraries, theatres, bookshops, hospitals, etc. Printemps des Poètes is a veritable ode to poetry to accompany the spring equinox. In 2016, the event was awarded the Goncourt poetry prize for all its work. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the National Book Centre and the Ministry of National Education and Youth, Linda Maria Baros has been the new Artistic Director of Printemps des Poètes since July 1, 2024.
« In a difficult world, often governed by self-interest, selfish profit and profitability,
we need poetry more than ever. we need poetry more than ever.
Because, as the Argentinian poet Roberto Juarroz puts it, poetry is "an extraordinary accelerator of consciousness","an extraordinary accelerator of consciousness", because it is a source of wonder and reflection, poetry must play an essential part in the education of young people. »

The Compagnie Mot pour Mot and The Springtime of Poets
Requested and supported by Jack Lang to establish Le Printemps des Poètes in the city of Sète, Mot pour Mot has been present every March since 1999. Since then, 26 editions have been staged, and every year the company works to make words dance for the arrival of spring, alongside readers, actors, poets, musicians and dancers.
With the help of poets Alexis Guiengani, Solo Soro, Julien Blaine, Les Souffleurs commandos poétiques, Kiko Motos, Magyd Cherfi, Gabi Jimenez, Hagit Grossman and Ronny Someck, the Compagnie Mot pour Mot will be celebrating poetry in a multi-discursive and interactive way every year, with a clear desire to make culture accessible to as many people as possible.
To celebrate the 27th anniversary of the Printemps des Poètes festival which took place in March 2025 in Sète, Compagnie Mot pour Mot is organising a series of shows, conferences and cultural events on the theme of Sea.
Mare Nostro show, as part of Printemps des Poètes#27 in the town of Sète in 2025, has been approved for the Year of the Sea.
France is celebrating the Year of the Sea, a national initiative to raise awareness of the vital importance of the Mediterranean Sea, and to mark a historic meeting on the themes of the sea, art, culture, the environment and diversity in France in 2025.
"It's a precious, vital asset, but one that we know little about (less than distant planets), and one that we sometimes look at sideways, with fear or indifference. So it's time to look at this ocean, to which we owe so much, together, to get to know it better and take better care of it. That's what this Year of the Sea is all about: a year to understand - and then remember - that we all have The Sea in common, whatever our territory."
